Webmin, a admin tool that's good for Unix starter's with web-GUI.This tool will allow you access to most, if not all of the linux/ unix system from your browser, a point and click toolbox.
PuTTY is a free implementation of Telnet and SSH for Win32 platforms. A must if you are making admin tasks from a Windows based computer, will give you SSH remote access to your Unix Box.
WinSCP, is an open source SFTP and SCP client for Windows using SSH. Copy edit and handel files on your Unix box from a Windows based computer, a bit like our good old NC, works well with PuTTY.
GNU Midnight Commander is a file manager I don't remember any working day, that did not include loading up and using mc, a NC ( Norton commander clone )
Ethereal, Network visual overview. I like it, its useful to show what TCP/UDP data is exchange in your net, a must for any NOC
EtherApe, is a graphical network monitor for Unix modeled after etherman its useful to show none IT guys/girls how data, and what data is peddling around in your net, a must for any NOC
Squidefender, scanner of logs. Yes, I was a part of making this tool, you can setup and configure it to locate and find items in your proxy Squid log or any log that you like to block
Sarg - Squid, Analysis Report Generator Running Squid Proxy, I find that sarg is one of the best tools to keep track on what users are doing, and keep you informed.
squid-graph, nice look at squid proxy activity's. Another good NOC tool(Small How2 and a example config files)
